Oakley Diner Proposal SR32 & North Bench Rd

4/26/07 At last nights Planning Commission meeting in Oakley, Keith Walker introduced his Oakley Dinner Idea on his triangle property at SR32 and North Bench Road.
His Petition for a Zone Change from Residential to Commercial was denied by the Planning Commission but his idea of his Specialty Food Dinner in Oakley went over very well with close to 50 people attending the meeting. The Commission suggested he comes back requesting a Conditional Use Permit.

The 1939 Built Dinner is 16' x 60'. It sits approximately 46 customers with 20 stools and 26 booth seats. It will undergo a complete restoration following the manufactures blueprints. It is presently in Middletown, Rhode Island.

Even thought this hearing was about the Zone Change, many people expressed their feelings on the idea of the Oakley Dinner. As the gateway from the North many thought this would be an awesome attraction, but more comments were heard that this should be an open space park with a possible statue. It was stated "Let the Folks in the Cemetery rest in peace". The Oakley Polar King showed how much traffic they receive and the though of is there going to be enough parking was brought up. Overwhelmingly we heard the idea of we love the dinner but this is the wrong place for it. Ideas of a land swap with the city were then brought up.

It is great to see the Oakley People involved in the Planning Process. We are happy to make this forum available and hope to see many comments here. CF

Kamas Valley Development

The summer of 2007 brings unstoppable and very obvious development to the Kamas Valley. Everywhere you look now you see new homes and businesses. Will this ruin what we love about our valley?

Francis City "Hill Top Road Closure"

4/5/2007

Our signed petitions were hand delivered to the Summit County Bldg in Coalville this morning!!Even though we only needed about 170 names - we delivered an astonishing 345!! Do you think that sends a message to our Mayor and Council?

The town has spoken loud and clear. The 345 signatures represent a geographical cross-section of the entire town - not just Wild Willow as the Mayor continually contends. Such an overwhelming number of signatures was attributed to a surprising number of residents city-wide who were willing to sign without hesitation! The huge number of signatures reflect a general displeasure of the way this issue ,and many others, have been handled. Hopefully, we will now have time to investigate thoroughly a remedy to the problematic intersection. We don't believe that leaving the intersection open and closing a part of a road - as is the Mayor's plan - is the answer.

In addition, 41 Voters Registration Forms were submitted to the County Clerk: An added benefit of the signature drive. The town of Francis should be very, very proud.

I am very impressed at how we mobilized so quickly from scratch. The town has come together as a community; meeting new neighbors and sharing their concerns. Think of what we can do when the NEXT issue(s) come around! WATER? SEWER? ELECTIONS?

Great job everyone!
