Francis Mayor's Front Page Mess!!

Francis Friends,
Have you seen the Mayors article on the FRONT PAGE of Park Record??
I am sickened by it! First of all, it is very one-sided reporting on the Hilltop issue from the Mayor only.
Second, the reporter NEVER INTERVIEWED ME for this article yet includes quotes from "Kristi Major".
Third, the Mayor calls us "political activists" and that whatever one does the rest follows. I don't know about you but I find that extremely offensive.
And this, from the group who obviously felt compelled to pull all the Hilltop signs out of MY yard and throw them in the ditch! Very childish indeed.

What do you think?
Kristi

EXCERPTS FROM ARTICLE:
Bergen lamented that the referendum is likely to pass, which means the intersection would stay open."That doesn't eliminate us from having to do something about the road," Bergen said. "Whether it's speed bumps or a one way, whatever we do with that road to try to protect ourselves, they're not going to like it." [REALLY? Did he even ASK US what we like or dont like? What is obvious to everyone but the Mayor is that we DONT LIKE the road closed!]
The mayor dismissed the most vocal critics as "political activists."
"What one does, the other one backs," Bergen said.

And this is journalism?? I just read your front page article and am stunned by the lack of journalistic integrity taken by both the writer and your editorial department in covering an election issue. Just a bit of research would have shown the significant flaws in the Mayor Bergen's proposal which is what motivated the citizens of Francis to initiate a successful signature petition in under 2-weeks, thanks to the delays taken by our Mayor and council in authorizing the petition paperwork we succeeded in putting this referendum on the ballot. This is not a few political activists as the mayor indicates it is his entire citizen base that has said ENOUGH with shoddy politics and secret decisions!!

I implore you to get this right and cover this issue with integrity. There is a major story here and you’ve missed it entirely.

In Response to Francis Mayor Bergen's Park Record Article
RE: Hilltop Road Closure
The Ordinance Mayor Bergen and 2 of his supporting councilmen want passed states: "..[it] revokes the right of the public to use this portion of Hilltop Road." Although they continue to claim we will still have access to it...I just can’t picture baby strollers, joggers, a herd of pooping cows and a fire truck all using the narrow path they proclaim will satisfy our needs.

Through all the debate on the various components of the proposed road closure – supposedly to remedy a dangerous intersection - let us keep in mind that according to Mayor Bergen’s plan, the so-called dangerous intersection will remain open. Make any sense to you? So we continue to ask: Why should we lose a major town road from a plan that doesn’t even fix the intersection?

The majority of Francis town believes that other ways of addressing the intersection were dismissed or ignored (what's new?). And UDOT agrees: we dont need to close a major town road in order to correct the intersection; and their reports do NOT advise us to close the road no matter how hard councilman John Keyes spins them. And, again, if the intersection (the one with ZERO accidents on record) is so dangerous, why does he insist on keeping it open?

Unfortunately Mayor Bergen sets the tone and refuses to listen to or engage in dialog with the people he's purporting to keep safe. He's never spoken to me or the other 450+ Francis residents who collectively sent him a strong message this summer via the Hilltop Referendum Petition. It saddens me to read Mayor Bergen is compelled to calling us names, labeling us 'political activists". He should not 'dismiss' any Francis resident because of their passion for the town and public issues. He should be trilled at such a vibrant and educated community and stop calling it 'his' town!

Though his intent may be sincere, the Mayor's plan is faulty. If the right hand is dangerous why are we cutting off the left? If we are concerned about safety, why are we planning on endangering the lives of our new residents by routing a major road through their subdivision? (A strategy NO developer would get approved). And is pulling the signs from my yard and calling us names all they have as a campaign?
